The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communications Specialist to join its Communication Division in Nairobi. About the Role
As the Communications Specialist, you’ll work closely with the UNEP Executive Office, serving as the primary focal point for the Executive Director (ED) on communications, media relations, and social media engagement. You’ll draft speeches, manage media relations, and lead impactful communication campaigns to promote UNEP’s global environmental agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and draft speeches, video messages, and opinion pieces for the Executive Director.
- Manage media relations, coordinate interviews, and draft responses on behalf of the ED.
- Oversee the ED’s social media platforms and engagement strategies.
- Provide advice on public affairs issues and lead communication campaigns.
- Mentor and supervise junior staff on specific projects.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in public information, journalism, or international relations.
- Experience working with high-level officials and on environmental issues is required.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French or another UN language is desirable.
