Intern – Infrastructure Management & Data Centre Operations (UNON, Nairobi)
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is offering an exciting Internship in Infrastructure Management & Data Centre Operations. This is a 6-month, in-person opportunity based at the UN Gigiri Complex in Nairobi. If you’re passionate about IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and data analytics, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience with a global organization.
About the Role
As an intern, you’ll work within the Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS) team, supporting the day-to-day operations of UNON’s IT infrastructure. You’ll contribute to server maintenance, cloud resource management, data center optimization, and cutting-edge AI and machine learning research. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world IT challenges while gaining exposure to the United Nations’ global operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing IT infrastructure, including server maintenance and cloud resources.
- Monitor and optimize data center performance for efficiency and compliance.
- Support user account management, network maintenance, and structured cabling installation.
- Research, deploy, and optimize Microsoft Copilot for IT automation and AI-driven workflows.
- Collect, analyze, and visualize data to generate actionable insights.
- Document processes, track configurations, and present weekly progress reports.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with IT infrastructure, cloud computing, or network optimization is beneficial.
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required; knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
