The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking Human Rights Interns to join the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan. This is an in-person, unpaid internship based in Nairobi, Kenya, for a duration of 3 to 6 months.
About the Role
As an intern, you’ll support the Fact-Finding Mission in investigating human rights violations and abuses, as well as international humanitarian law violations, committed in Sudan since 15 April 2023. You’ll assist in research, online investigations, evidence analysis, report drafting, and coordination with civil society, UN, AU, and other entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in investigations and analysis of human rights violations and abuses.
- Conduct online research, (remote) interviews, and evidence analysis.
- Support report drafting and coordination activities with relevant entities.
- Ensure gender and diversity issues are integrated into the Mission’s work.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme (Master’s or equivalent) or in the final year of a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field.
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required; knowledge of Arabic or another UN language is an advantage.
- Demonstrated interest in human rights and the work of the United Nations.
